Writing Center Staff

RM Scholars,

Our methodologies and revised literature reviews are due on Thursday, October 20.

Our first examination will be on Tuesday, October 25th.

I am making the executive decision not to lecture on any more new material this Thursday. Get me a hard copy of your intro and methods sections by 5 p.m. Please use the extra free time to review what you’ve done and to think about implementing your project.

You should also use this free time to pre-answer all of the potential test questions for Tuesday. If you’ve misplaced the handout from class here is a pdf file.

Psi Chi Service Activity

September 21, 2005

09.21.05

Scholars,

I would like to offer you an opportunity to engage in a rich learning environment that is disguised as a national service project. Psi Chi has recently begun service projects that are civic in nature and many award-winning chapters are collecting provisions for local food banks. We have one here in Dahlonega (the Community Helping Place) that provides food to an unbelievable number of people in need in Lumpkin county. Most of the financing for food purchases comes from thrift store sales. I’d like your help in stocking the food bank, not by holding a can drive, rather I am suggesting that we help them start an eBay store to get more cash from the better items that are donated.

This major project could easily win us a national award from Psi Chi. Being a pioneering team member on a project like this would look great on a vita too. Imagine being able to describe starting up a complex and productive program that touched thousands of lives when asked what you’ve been up to on a job interview or graduate school recruitment trip.

We need several motivated and intelligent student leaders to get this project rolling. We are looking for several different skills and I’m sure that you will be able to contribute something. We will need technologically savvy students to create the eBay store. We will need good writers and marketing people to create the propaganda and descriptions of our goods. We will need shoppers with a good eye for value to go to the thrift store on a regular basis and select valuable items for sale. We’ll need talents that we haven’t even thought of yet.

If you are interested in working on this project (and potentially setting up an internship program for future psych majors) please bring me a copy of your resume and a cover letter describing how you would see your role in this project by lunch on Monday, September 26th. I will be very please to speak with any of you (as always) about the project. In addition, you do not have to be a member of Psi Chi to participate in this project.

Sincerely,

Chuck Robertson, Ph.D.

testing info

September 14, 2005

Scholars,

FYI — this blog is for all my classes. You need to read the post about tests carefully.

Today (09.14.05) intro psych is having their first examination.

Tomorrow (09.15.05) both stats classes are having their descriptive statistics examination in Dunlap Hall room 104.

Cognition will have their first examination after we discuss attention (chapter 3). A good estimate for an exam date would be next Wednesday or Friday.

Scholars,

Invite everyone and come to the first psych club meeting of the year. We will be developing a plan of attack and we have officer positions available. We will be organizing a variety of events and Psi Chi information will be shared with everyone. We will give away the worlds worst door prizes. There also might be cookies, yummmm!!!!

Join us in Dunlap Hall, Room 205 on Tuesday, the 13th of September during the meeting period.

Sharing? Huh?

September 7, 2005

I shared the following with my SFCS class this morning as a way to get to know each other better and to get some practice blogging. Feel free to answer or pass it along as you see fit (with or without mutations).

Scholars,
For your first task I’d like to share a meme so that we can all get to know one another a little better.
Answer the following questions by using the comment button and including URLs and images as you see fit. I’ll be in my office from 8 until 9 if you are up and need help. I’ll be participating too.
Get to know you better meme:
1. What is your favorite rock band?
2. Who is your favorite musician for depressed days?
3. Who is your favorite musician for happy days?
4. Who is you favorite movie director?
5. What is your favorite book and who is your favorite author?
6. What is/are your favorite site(s) on the web? Can you share them with us?
Good Luck! C

1. What is your favorite rock band?
I’m old enough that “rock band” can mean several different things. Depending on who I’m with and the occasion you can easily find me listening to NIN, Guns ‘N Roses, KORN, or the Indigo Girls…and yes, the Indigo Girls are a rock band. Go see them in concert.
I’d also suggest that you listen to the Misfits (with Glenn Danzig).
2. Who is your favorite musician for depressed days?
Everyday is a depressed day, and with that in mind I’ve been listening to a bunch of Damien Rice. Here’s the video for Blowers Daughter.
3. Who is your favorite musician for happy days?
and if I’m really happy I listen to Maria. If you tell anyone I’ll deny it ;-) I love you Mimi!
4. Who is you favorite movie director?
5. What is your favorite book and who is your favorite author?
Clive Barker and Anne Rice rule my worlds. If I had to pick a book, I’ll go with the Witching Hour. Rowan Rocks!
6. What is/are your favorite site(s) on the web? Can you share them with us?
…I’m tired of linking. I’ll give you some good educational ones at a later date.
